چکیده

More than 50 methods have been developed to draw unequal probability samples with fixed sample size. All these methods require the sum of the inclusion probabilities to be an integer number. There are cases, however, where the sum of desired inclusion probabilities is not an integer. Then, classical algorithms for drawing samples cannot be directly applied. We present two methods to overcome the problem of sample selection with unequal inclusion probabilities when their sum is not an integer and the sample size cannot be fixed. The first one consists in splitting the inclusion probability vector. The second method is based on extending the population with a phantom unit. For both methods the sample size is almost fixed, and equal to the integer part of the sum of the inclusion probabilities or this integer plus one. AMS 2000 subject classifications: Primary 62D05.

On the inclusion probabilities in some unequal probability sampling plans without replacement

Comparison results are obtained for the inclusion probabilities in some unequal probability sampling plans without replacement. For either successive sampling or Hájek’s rejective sampling, the larger the sample size, the more uniform the inclusion probabilities in the sense of majorization. In particular, the inclusion probabilities are more uniform than the drawing probabilities. For the same...

On Successive Sampling and Fixed Inclusion Probabilities

In the method of successive sampling, a sample of n distinct units is drawn from a population of N units one at a time. Each unit i is drawn with a fixed selection probability pi and any repeated units are ignored. When the pi are proportional to a given size measure, this is called probability proportional to size without replacement (PPSWOR). The first order inclusion probabilities πi of each...

On a Scheme of Sampling of Two Units With Inclusion Probability Proportional to Size

Abstract: This paper introduces an unequal probability sampling without replacement scheme with inclusion probability proportional to size. This new scheme possesses some desirable properties with regard to πi and πij , and provides a non-negative variance estimator of the Horvitz and Thompson estimator, when the values of the auxiliary variable fulfill some restrictions. On comparing the sugge...

An Empirical Study of some Unequal Probability Sampling Estimators

An empirical study has been carried out to decide about the performance of various estimators used in unequal probability sampling without replacement and a sample of size 2. The Hansen–Hurwitz estimator and simple random sampling method has also been compared in this study. Some suggestions have been given at the end.

Bayesian inference for finite population quantiles from unequal probability samples.

This paper develops two Bayesian methods for inference about finite population quantiles of continuous survey variables from unequal probability sampling. The first method estimates cumulative distribution functions of the continuous survey variable by fitting a number of probit penalized spline regression models on the inclusion probabilities. The finite population quantiles are then obtained ...
